Actress Erin Darke, who’s set to appear in the film “Summer ’03” in September, has made a name for herself by picking exciting, female-led projects. She’s been in groundbreaking TV shows like “Dietland,” “Good Girls Revolt” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” each of which tackle female empowerment, body image, equal pay and other issues in a unique way. As part of TODAY Style’s “Why I Love My” series, she shares her own journey to body acceptance (despite Hollywood pressure) and why “fat” shouldn’t be a bad word.

Dietland Canceled By AMC After One Season

The network of The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul took a swing with the female-centric Dietland, starring Joy Nash and Julianna Margulies, but the series had a hard time drawing a wide audience. The network brass explored different options for keeping the show alive but in the end pulled the plug.

Season 1 averaged a paltry 203k adults 18-49 in live+3 ratings. It started with 262k in adults 18-49 for the premiere, slipping to a 158k in 18-49 for the finale.

“Dietland is bold, original and brave,” AMC said in a statement. “We are beyond proud of our partnership with Marti Noxon, Joy Nash, Juliana Margulies, Skydance and everyone else involved in bringing Sarai Walker’s story to the screen. Similarly, Aisha Tyler and our friends at Embassy Row delivered a unique companion show that led with fresh voices and important topics. “Dietland garnered critical acclaim and passionate fans but unfortunately we will not be able to continue with a second season.”

Erin Darke To Star In YouTube Comedy Pilot It’s A Man’s World

Dietland alumna Erin Darke is set as the lead in YouTube Premium’s comedy pilot It’s a Man’s World (working title), from Smash creator Theresa Rebeck, Christina Wayne’s Assembly Entertainment and ITV Studios America. In addition, Romeo Tirone (The Tick, Taken) has been tapped to direct and executive produce the pilot. Production began February 25 in New York.

Written by Rebeck, the story centers around Emma (Darke), a successful video game design executive and the sole breadwinner for her family, who is used to dodging the landmines that come with being a woman in a male-dominated field. When she gets fired without explanation and finds that she’s being blacklisted by everyone in her industry, Emma decides to dress as a man to get a new job and to continue supporting her family. As strange and politically incorrect as Emma’s new life may be, she starts to enjoy the newfound ease of access and power that comes with being a man.

Women Forward 2019

The Bpeace Women Forward Awards will be recognizing organizations and individuals who are mentoring women forward on June 6, 2019, in New York City at an Awards Breakfast at the Cornell Club. Following a nationwide call for nominations, a blue-ribbon panel of female CEO-level judges selected from among 45 finalists representing a range of industries and sectors.

CBC has commissioned a new original one-hour series, Feudal, created by Sheri Elwood (Call Me Fitz, Lucifer).

Produced by Six Eleven Media and Entertainment One (eOne), the 8×1-hour drama tells the story of the Finley-Cullens, a dysfunctional clan of adult half-siblings battling for control of their family business, The Moonshine, a ramshackle summer resort on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Production is underway for a planned 2021 broadcast on CBC.

Giving Blueday

The University of Michigan-Flint has big plans for this year’s Giving Blueday event to be held on March 10. The campus has established a very ambitious $1M goal and is now unveiling plans for thanking those who support the campus’ fundraising efforts and make a gift to UM-Flint on Giving Blueday.

To celebrate those who support the Flint campus this year on Giving Blueday, the University will be hosting an “Evening with Erin” virtual event on March 20, with Erin Darke. This virtual event, open to those who make a gift on Giving Blueday, will begin at 6:30 pm EST on Saturday, March 20, and will be an hour-long conversation with Erin Darke, with time for an audience Q&A session.

The discussion will be hosted by Theatre and Dance Emerita Professor Carolyn Gillespie and will highlight Erin’s acting career as well as reflections and memories of her time on campus as a student. Professor Gillespie joined the UM-Flint faculty in 1987 after a dozen years at the University of Texas at Dallas. She is the recipient of a number of awards for her creative output, as well as for her teaching and service to the University and to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

City of Ghosts was my first experience doing a narrative podcast and I was worried that it would feel really isolating to record, but we ended up recording most of it while on video conference with each other. It was really cool! Even though I was alone on a chair in my closet, it still felt like we were part of a team. We still got to connect and play together. Especially in the height of Covid, when I hadn’t had that feeling of creativity or connection for so long, it was really wonderful to find it here.

Synopsis:

CITY OF GHOSTS is a supernatural mystery that follows El Rivkin (Brigette Lundy-Paine), an information broker who makes a living collecting and selling the dirty secrets of New York’s elite, assisted by her business partner and only friend, the agoraphobic internet whiz Prizrak (Moises Arias). After they are hired to investigate a journalist’s murder, El begins to untangle a web that takes her from a burned-down apartment building to the highest levels of New York society – a world her sister Talia (Erin Darke) is marrying into, as she weds the old-moneyed James Chapman (James Scully).

Following last week’s Season 1 finale of original east coast Canadian family dramedy series Moonshine (8×60), CBC is revealing casting and production details for Season 2. Created by Sheri Elwood (Lucifer, Call Me Fitz) and produced by Six Eleven Media and Entertainment One (eOne), the series follows the Finley-Cullens, a dysfunctional clan of adult half-siblings battling for control of their family business – a ramshackle summer campground called The Moonshine. Production on the eight-episode second season recently wrapped in Nova Scotia and is set to premiere on CBC in fall 2022, with the entire first season now available to stream on CBC Gem.

Erin expecting First Child

New photos from March 24 showed Erin with a baby bump there is no doubt that Dan and Erin will welcome a child sometime this year.

US Weekly Magazine said,

“Daniel and Erin are absolutely overjoyed about the pregnancy,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “It’s a dream come true! They’ve been proudly showing photographs of the ultrasound to their closest family and friends.”

Us broke the news on Saturday, March 25, that Darke, 38, and Radcliffe, 33, are going to be parents later this year.

The insider adds that “Dan and Erin are keeping mum about names” so their loved ones will be surprised by their choice. “All their friends are over the moon about the pregnancy.”

Erin Darke & David Rosenberg Join VLADIMIR Cast

Erin Darke and David Rosenberg will join previously announced two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz , Erik Jensen, and Jonathan Walker. Rehearsals for Vladimir began this week in New York City.

Vladimir will begin performances on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at New York City Center Stage. Opening night is Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
